4 Ways to Get Outside and Enjoy Bayonne’s Fall Weather

Now that Labor Day Weekend and the last hurrahs of summer have passed, fall is fast approaching. And in Bayonne, that means beautiful weather is on its way! Think: cool fall breezes, a break from the humidity, and that crisp feel to the air that signals a change in the season. Regardless of whether you’re lamenting the lost days of summer or eagerly urging on the autumn, it’s a great time of year for getting outside and exploring.

Here are the best ways to get outside and enjoy fall weather in and around Bayonne.

Celebrate with an Event or Festival

Nothing says “Hello Fall!” like a nice fall festival. And Bayonne’s got quite a few to enjoy. Here are a few we’re most looking forward to:

The Bayonne Renaissance Festival: A FREE festival celebrating art and culture in Bayonne. Date is Sept 28, location is TBD.

Water Lantern Festival NY/NJ: A floating lantern event voted the #1 Best Cultural Festival by USA Today! September 14 at Liberty State Park.

Bayonne Farmers Market: Every Tuesday at 2pm, shop local and support local business at the Bayonne Farmers Market at Fitzpatrick Park.

Head to a Local Park to See Some Colors

The leaves haven’t quite started to change yet… but it won’t be long now. And when they do, you’ll definitely want to be outside getting an eyeful of all those gorgeous colors. But in the meantime, get outside and enjoy ample sunshine and cooling temps at a Bayonne park like Collins Park or Gregg Park, or take a stroll along the Hackensack River Walk.

Pick Some Fresh Fall Apples

While there are no orchards in the Gold Coast area (one of the minor downsides to city living), there are quite a few great pick-your-own destinations within a short drive. So if you’re craving crisp apples, fresh cider donuts, and maybe even a corn maze or tractor ride, you won’t have to go far. Here are some recommendations:

Demarest Farms (Hillsdale, 35 min): 14 varieties of apples, hayride, corn maze, farm animals, farm store, apple cider donuts, and more.

Ripple Hill Farm (Basking Ridge, 40 min): Pick-your-own apples on Sundays, a fresh apple farm stand, and a convenient location right off Route 78.

Melick’s Town Farm (Whitehouse Station, 45 min): PYO apples, tractor rides, Cider Mill, pumpkins, baked goods, and more.

Take a Day Trip for Some Real Leaf Peeping

Living in the city in the NJ/NY area, we don’t get quite the exquisite foliage of some of the upstate areas… but the good news is you’re never more than a short drive away from some of the best leaf-peeping around! Here are some of the best New York spots for fall foliage.

Central Park: With over 20,000 trees, Central Park is a pretty ideal place for autumn colors… and you can get there without even climbing in the car.

Harriman State Park: The second-largest park in the NY state parks system, Harirman features over 30 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, two beaches, public camping, and more.

Catskill Mountains: About three hours from Bayonne, but you don’t just get amazing views, you get amazing hiking, too.
